Pregnancy

Low back & pelvic pain are common in pregnancy as the body struggles to adapt to the growing uterus. The growing tummy can put a great deal of stress on the low back, increasing the curvature of the low back as the body’s centre of gravity changes.

Hormonal changes also have a strong influence on the joints and soft tissues of the body. Relaxin is one of the main pregnancy hormones which acts to soften joints ready to facilitate the growing baby and birth.

Gentle manipulation and mobilisation techniques are safe to use by a chiropractor during any stage of pregnancy and are complimented by soft tissue massage and/or trigger points to ease muscle tension. Full body pads allow for the pregnant patient to be treated face down without any pressure to the abdomen – a treat for any pregnant lady from my personal experience!
